Making Combination Pliers (Part 1)

The raw material is supplied in rectangular bars which are about 6 m long and have a cross-section of 26 x 10 mm.


Under an eccentric press the bars are cut into pieces with the appropriate cutting tools.

These cut pieces are as long as the pliers which will be made from them. In gas-fired or oil-fired furnaces they are heated to about 1,200 ºC, a bright-yellow glowing heat, and then pre-bent and forged under drop hammers in the die.
